What is the best inexpensive “vacation” you could recommend?
Question by Junior’s Gal: What is the best affordable “vacation” you could advise?
I want to take my 13 year old daughter on a mini holiday. We planned originally a large trip to Disney or Coco Beach, but now a thing came up and we want to go WAY less costly, we reside in Southwest Indiana! Any suggestions? I am looking for responses from 18+ year olds, not young children. Thanks!

Properly, go to her favorite hotel in your hometown and take her to some nearby shows that she might want to see, as nicely as her preferred restraunt. Hope this helps, thanks for the 2 points!

How about Dollywood in Tennessee? Not sure if you’re a country fan or not, but I don’t think you’d have to be – and it’s close to where you’re located.
Go camping! Bring along one of her friends (she’ll be less bored) and go to a state or county park (or a KOA) and camp out for a week. You can find really nice campgrounds with hot showers, flush toilets and even swimming pools for not-too-much money. You can rent equipment from REI if you don’t have any, or borrow from friends. Toast marshmallows, stay up late, let the girls giggle in a tent, play cards and board games, go on walks, that sort of thing. I go camping with my cousins every June and we have a blast, plus it’s very relaxing to just get away from it all.
I definately agree with Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg Tennessee area. I have been there several times and it a great place to go on vacation. It’s not going to have the same atmosphere as something like Disney, but it is still a ton of fun. There are so many great shows, tons and tons of shopping, you could go to the mountain, go horseback riding, etc.
If this still is a little too expensive, look for things to do around your area. Look up some popular tourist areas, or even places within an hour or two of your home. Just spending time with you will be great, so it doesn’t have to be a really expensive trip. Look for a nice hotel that has lots of shopping, good dining and shows in the area. Take her for lots of shopping, go see some plays, movies, go to some nice restaraunts, take her to get her hair done, her nails done, etc. Just pamper her and have a great time together.
Of course, you don’t even have to leave home to have a great time. I’m sure that you two don’t get to spend as much time as you would like. Set aside a couple of days that is just for you. Rent tons of movies (you could always borrow them from the library so you don’t have to pay anything) watch moves, eat popcorn and lots of junk food. Do her nails, talk, play lots of games and just hand out. Go to a couple of nice restaraunts and do some shopping around your home. Of course, for this to work, you both need to be dedicated. That means no work for you, no phone calls, no homework, if there is another parent or sibling, maybe they could go somewhere too, so it is just you and her.
A vacation doesn’t always have to take you several hours from home. You can have a vacation that is just as nice right at home or a few hours a way. As long as you spend time with each other, that is what is important. You both will remember it forever and you will grow closer because of it.
Hope this helps
EDIT- I also forgot to mention this place: http://bearcreekfarms.com/ I’ve been there before and they have some really nice themed weekends. It’s a cute little place to go, it’s inexpensive and it is a lot of fun. You would get away, have a lot to do and not spend very much money. It is really great.
You could also look into some place like Cedar Point, King’s Island, etc. They are fun as well. It will be a little more like going to Disney with the amusement park and it will get you away. Since it isn’t too far from home, it would be less expensive than a Disney trip!
Tennesse……. Baby!
