Cruise Jobs – Combining Work And Pleasure

Want to save your cruise ship vacation budget? Check out Our Product Page

There was a time when the US armed forces had an ad campaign telling us that you can see the world by joining the armed forces. But now there is a much safer alternative, see the world by getting a job on a cruise ship.
On a cruise ship there are hundreds of possible jobs, but remember a cruise job will require more dedication from you than a regular 9 to 5 job. On the other hand, the benefits are wonderful too, with most cruise jobs you will get free accommodation and you can get free medical care from the ship’s medical department. The best part of it of course is the chance to travel the world and to see new places and faces – and getting paid for it!
Cruise ships each have three administrative divisions, namely the hotel, the deck and the engine room, and they are supervised by the hotel manager, the staff captain and the chief engineer respectively. The hotel manager and the chief engineer report to the staff captain, because he is the one running the deck. To get a higher level job will probably require a degree from a navel academy, but there are many entry level jobs available in either the deck, the engine room or hotel. You can get more information and help from the Seaman’s Union.
Depending on your background and experience you might be able to get a mid-level job, or else get on the job training and experience and climb the cruise ship career ladder that way. Since there are so many positions available on a cruise ship, there is always the chance of advancement. But always remember the most important personality feature you absolutely must display, and that is to be outgoing and loving to interact with people. During a journey going through different surrounding on a ship filled with people, you need to be outgoing and flexible.
The attraction of a cruise job is the irresistable combination of travelling the world, sightseeing, enjoying many different people and low living expenses and you will build close relationships with your co-workers.
The usual length of a cruising job contract will be 4 months that you will need to be aboard the ship. Between these periods on the ship, you will get breaks of four to six weeks. And since you have very low living expenses during your cruising period, you will have a handy amount of expendable cash during your breaks.

Cruise Jobs – A Lucrative And Fun Experience

Many people have heard the old adage that a cruise ship is like a floating city, therefore, it is not hard to imagine that it takes hundreds of employees to run and maintain a cruise ship. Think of all the jobs that have to be filled just in the community where you live. It is the same way on a cruise ship.
Basically, there are about 14 different departments on a cruise ship, with each department being responsible for hiring a particular group of employees to fill the jobs available on the cruise ship. The Deck department is by far where the highest paying cruise ship jobs are, as this department fills the need for captains and all other officers, as well as hiring security staff members and safety officers. The safety officers aboard a cruise ship do the same job as a policeman would on dry land.
The Galley department is in charge of obtaining employees to fill jobs such as butchers, dishwashers, cooks, pastry chefs, as well as any other kitchen staff. The I.T. department can offer jobs to those trained in computer systems, computer repair and the like. Those looking for cashier and boutique jobs would need to see someone within the Gift Shop Department. The Medical department is able to offer employment to trained and licensed physicians and nurses, while the Beauty department is interested in filling positions needing hair stylists, barbers, nail technicians and massage therapists. These are just a few of the departments that hire personnel for cruise ship jobs, there are many others.
A cruise ship also has the need for many other services, and look for employees who desire to be plumbers, repairmen, waiters, bartenders, dance instructors, black jack dealers and other casino workers, janitors, cashiers, bus boys, musicians, singers, spa and pool maintenance workers, laundry staff, fitness instructors and the list just goes on and on.
Those employed by a cruise ship almost always enjoy such great benefits as free meals and travel, free health insurance, medium to high wages, free room and board as well as discounted cruise travel for family and friends. A cruise ship job will also offer the employee the opportunity to see things, and to travel to far away places. Without a cruise ship job, many people would never be able to travel so extensively.
Around the world, the data shows that there are approximately 47,000 cruise ship jobs available every single year. No matter what your chosen profession is, there is a good possibility that a cruise ship may just need your services and expertise.
You can see what positions are available by visiting the websites of each one of the different cruise lines if you are interested in a cruise ship job. There are also job boards on the World Wide Web that specifically list jobs that are available aboard cruise ships.

Disney Cruise Line Jobs For Those Who Want To Save You Weeks Or Even Months Of Precious Time

Is your work and/or home life become a monotonous, boring existence? Is there too much of the month left over after you’ve depleted your paycheck? If you answered yes to either of these questions, a Disney cruise line job may be the refreshing change you need. Imagine waking up each day at a new beach or resort atmosphere, always having plenty of cash to enjoy all the activities you want to do, like jet skiing, hiking, beach going, swimming with dolphins, and much more.

If a cruise line job sounds exciting to you, join the crowd, there are thousands like you. But you can literally “bypass” all of the competition if you know the secret tricks of the trade. Here are a few of the characteristics cruise lines are looking for while considering job applicants:

Are you reliable? – Reliability is a must for cruise line recruiters. They don’t want you jumping ship if your job on board gets a little old. It’s very tough for a ship to replace someone in another destination.

Are you presentable? – This is also extremely important, especially if you will be interfacing passengers on a regular basis. Cruise lines can be compared to 5 star hotels in a sense, so professionalism and good presentation is imperative

Are you enthusiastic? – Cruise ship jobs require enthusiasm, especially since the jobs on board are very different than those on land. It’s possible you could be working more varied hours than you would on a 9 – 5, so you can’t be cranky when this is the case.

Are you cheerful? – Cruise ship passengers paid a lot of money for their trip, and are vacationing, so they don’t want to deal with unhappy people. It’s very important that crew members maintain a cheerful demeanor when on the job.

These tips may seem like the typical “job requirements”, but these days, fewer and fewer people meet these basic requirements, so if you continually exude these traits, you’ll have the upper hand on the competition.

Jobs On Cruise Lines Are Hard To Come By – So What’s The Formula For Landing One Fast?

As you may or may not know, depending on how far into your cruise ship job search, jobs on cruise lines are hard to come by. The desks of personnel managers are stacked high with resumes, most of which will never get a second look. It’s unfortunate, but the fact of the matter is, it’s to be expected. After all, the excitement of working on a cruise ship is just too much to pass up for many adventure seekers.

So what’s it take to get that hard won cruise ship job then? Above all, it takes proper qualifications, current openings, proper timing, and lots of persistence. If you know or know of someone whose worked in the industry, obviously you have a leg up on the competition, but most don’t. In that case, hiring an agency would go a long way.

You want to develop your skills for a cruise ship job. Some jobs require experience or highly developed skills, while others don’t. If you are new to the job market, or just out of school, consider just getting your food in the door with a menial job, or a general staff or retail position. These don’t require specialized skills for the most part, and once you’ve landed a job for a cruise line, you can then develop and work into areas you enjoy more. Not only that but you’ll get to see first hand which jobs are the most desirable while doing so.

Evaluate yourself, and your college transcripts for the best way to present yourself. Have you had a job in customer service, or retail sales? Most cruise lines don’t expect younger applicants to have much experience, but if you can demonstrate that you’ve had some role in customer service and demonstrated that you were courteous and kind, that goes a long way.
